ARA Student Content

Award Eligibility: Must be a part-time or full-time student during the 2021 - 2022 academic year. Students can major in any field with interest in aural rehabilitation and member of ARA.

Goal: Create a visual presentation for patients or professionals to demonstrate or address a current topic in aural rehabilitation.


Possible Topics:

  • Communication in the time of COVID-19 (e.g., how to prevent losing hearing aids when removing a mask, effective communication while wearing a mask, etc.)

  • Providing Aural Rehabilitation by Telehealth- Individual or in a group (e.g., auditory training, communication strategies, informational counseling on hearing aids, cochlear implants, assistive technology, counseling, support groups, etc.)

  • Ethical issues when providing remote services

  • Technology and communication support to combat isolation in hospitals and retirement communities (e.g., assistive technology, speech to text apps, captioning online during video conferences with family or doctors, psychosocial counseling, communication activities, support groups, etc.)

  • Cleaning, maintaining and troubleshooting common problems with hearing devices

  • Communicating in noise

  • Any other aural rehabilitation topic of your choice

Suggested types of visual presentations:

  • Demonstration video

  • Infographics

  • Handouts

  • Other creative and fun ideas for addressing an aural rehabilitation topic

Evaluation Criteria: First round to be judged by a panel of ARA experts on

  • Creativity (25 points)

  • Visual appeal (25 points)

  • Content accuracy (25 points)

  • Clinical relevance (25 points)

Up to 10 submissions will enter the second round of judging by peers and ARA members via social media. Participants entering the second round will be notified by email.

The winner will be notified by August 1, 2021, and receive the following:

  • Featured on the ARA web page/social media

  • Complimentary student registration for the 2021 ARA Institute

  • Certificates of achievement

  • A 1-year membership to ARA (first, second and third place winners)
